Some of the stories that matter most to the Tallahassee community cannot be reported on in a day, or even a week. They take time, persistence, and a willingness to ask questions nobody else has asked.
To address this, the FSView & Florida Flambeau has launched the Investigative Desk. This permanent addition to our newsroom will spend extended periods of time on each project, digging deep into issues concerning Florida State students, Florida A&M students, Tallahassee State College students, and the broader Tallahassee community.
The FSView & Florida Flambeau has served the Tallahassee community since 1915. In its 111-year history, this marks the first time it has established a desk dedicated to investigative reporting.
The FSView’s Investigative Desk serves the public interest
Our mission is to shed light on and bring accountability to hidden issues in Tallahassee. The stories our investigative journalists follow are those that are in the public’s best interest to understand.
We commit to fairness. Following the USA TODAY Network’s Principles of Ethical Conduct for Newsrooms, we gather evidence from all sides, fact-check every story, and give anyone whose conduct we report on a fair, documented opportunity to respond.
Each project will walk through the thought process behind each journalist’s investigation and will be transparent about where they sourced their information, so readers can see the work behind every story.
Meet the Investigative Desk team
Investigative Team Lead Gregory Rusin, a political science and economics double major at FSU, joined the FSView’s news section in fall 2025 and now serves as a senior staff writer.
“At a time where a fractured media landscape and government overreach are blurring the lines between truth and lies, we need community-driven journalism more than ever. I wanted to help lead the Investigative Desk because it allows us to better serve the FSU community by accessing new tools to uncover complex, data-driven stories that make a bigger difference in our campus community,” Rusin said.
Deputy Investigative Team Lead Sofia Aristizabal, an economics major at FSU, also joined the news section in fall 2025 and serves as a senior staff writer.
“I believe journalism is the backbone of society. It uncovers the truth that everyone deserves to know, and holds people and organizations accountable for their wrongdoings. I wanted to help lead the Investigative Desk for this reason, as I truly believed it would be the best way for me to help encourage justice and fairness in our world,” Aristizabal said.
Amelie Galbraith, Tanner Block, Emily Dorman, and Emmie Klekamp round out the six-person team for the fall 2026 semester. Each team member is working on a unique project that addresses an issue they see in their community.
Communicate with the Investigative Desk
Some investigations begin with the experiences of the people they affect. Throughout the year, some of our investigative reporters will launch surveys to hear directly from students and community members. The responses and data generated will help guide the reporting in their project.
