As we get into the final months of the year, it’s never too early to start dreaming about your next big getaway or simply getting a break from work. Not only have we put together a useful list of dates for you so that you can have them all in one handy guide, but Florida will see a whopping 11 long public holiday weekends among 13 public holiday dates in 2027.

Keep in mind that depending on whether you work for the state, the federal government or the private sector, your exact time off might vary, but here’s when you can expect to clock out and kick back next year:

Florida public holidays for 2027

Because several major holidays fall perfectly on a Friday or Monday this year, the calendar is unusually stacked with three-day weekends. Plus, Florida state employees get the added bonus of the Friday after Thanksgiving!

Friday, January 1 — New Year’s Day

Monday, January 18 — Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Monday, February 15 — Washington’s Birthday/Presidents’ Day

Monday, May 31 — Memorial Day

Friday, June 18 — Juneteenth National Independence Day (observed)

Monday, July 5 — Independence Day (observed)

Monday, September 6 — Labor Day

Monday, October 11 — Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Thursday, November 11 — Veterans Day

Thursday, November 25 — Thanksgiving Day

Friday, November 26 — Friday After Thanksgiving (state holiday)

Friday, December 24 — Christmas Day (observed)

Friday, December 31 — New Year’s 2028 (observed)

Here’s how you can maximize your off days or PTO by taking advantage of the 2027 calendar. Be sure to check your workplace’s observed holidays before putting in requests.

Days off after Monday holidays

Because the year is stacked with Monday holidays, you can executive this same strategy six different times throughout the year. If you take Tuesday through Friday off following any Monday federal holiday, you’ll get nine consecutive days off:

After MLK Day: Book January 19–22

After Presidents’ Day: Book February 16–19

After Memorial Day: Book June 1–4

After Independence Day: Book July 6–9

After Labor Day: Book September 7–10

After Columbus/Indigenous Peoples’ Day: Book October 12–15

Jun. 12 – 20, 2027: Juneteenth

Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, is observed on Friday, June 18. If you book June 14 through 17, you’ll get nine days off (June 12 – June 20) using four days of leave.

Nov. 6 – 14, 2027: Veterans Day

With Veterans Day falling on Thursday, November 11, book off November 8 through 12 for nine consecutive days off (November 6 – 14).

Nov. 20 – 28, 2027: Thanksgiving

For state employees or private employees who get Black Friday off, Thanksgiving is already a built-in four-day weekend. Take November 22 through 24 for nine consecutive days off (November 20 – 28) while only using three days of leave.

Dec. 24, 2027 – Jan. 2, 2028: Christmas and New Year’s

In 2027, Christmas is observed on Friday, December 24, and New Year’s Day is observed on Friday, December 31. Book off December 27 through December 30 to get 10 consecutive days off (December 24 – January 2) using only four days of leave.

If you only have 1 PTO day to spare in November, just book Friday, November 12, for a quick four-day weekend! With this many holidays to help maximize your annual leave, it’s the perfect time to reconnect with nature, spend lazy afternoons on the beach or unplug entirely on a staycation!
