The Tony Award–winning musical “Buena Vista Social Club” is headed to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, with a six-day run scheduled for Oct. 13–18.

Inspired by the Cuban album that became a global sensation in the late 1990s, the show takes audiences from the streets and music clubs of Havana into the lives of its artists. At the center of the story is legendary singer Omara Portuondo, once known across Cuba as the “Queen of Feeling,” who has spent years away from the spotlight.

When a young record producer presents her with an unexpected opportunity to record again, she is forced to revisit long-buried memories, relationships and choices that shaped her life and career. Blending live music, dance and storytelling, the production explores themes of ambition, friendship, loss and second chances while celebrating the songs that introduced generations of listeners to the sound of Cuba.

The production arrives in South Florida after a successful Broadway run that earned five Tony Awards, including honors for choreography, orchestrations and sound design. The show’s Original Broadway Cast Recording also received a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

The musical features a book by Marco Ramirez and is directed by Saheem Ali, with choreography by Patricia Delgado and Justin Peck. Its score draws from the music of Cuba’s golden age while telling the story behind the artists whose recordings became an international phenomenon.
