Mercedes MartinezCAPE CORAL, Fla. —

Cape Coral leaders are considering a $17 million proposal for road improvements as part of the North 3 utility extension project during Wednesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.

The city said the funding would come from transportation funds, not from property owners.

The proposed upgrades include 10-foot sidewalks on both sides of the road, driveway extensions, swale relocations, and bridge improvements.

Right now, the city restores roads to about the same condition they were in before utility work begins.

This plan would provide neighborhoods with more than just new water lines, potentially bringing road and sidewalk upgrades as well.

Cape Coral leaders will also discuss requesting proposals for engineering and design work in the North 6 and future project areas. This comes after the city did not reach an agreement with a project manager.

This is all for discussion only, and there will be no vote this morning.

Wednesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting starts at 9 a.m.
