ST. LUCIE COUNTY – A 43-year-old Miami man who St. Lucie County Sheriff’s officials say supplied a fentanyl user with a fatal overdose was arrested on Oct. 13, according to a sheriff’s office Facebook posting.

A weeks-long narcotics investigation by the sheriff’s office Special Investigations Division (SID) resulted in the arrest of James Arthur Green, 43, of Miami, according to the Facebook posting.

Through multiple undercover purchases of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and crack cocaine, detectives developed evidence identifying Green as the suspected supplier of fentanyl to the individual who subsequently died from an overdose.

On Oct. 13, investigators used the deceased victim’s cellular phone during another controlled narcotics operation to place an order for fentanyl, according to the Facebook posting.

Green allegedly returned to the victim’s residence, delivered approximately two grams of fentanyl, and even sent a photograph showing where he left it, according to the Facebook posting.

Later that day, during a separate undercover operation, Green allegedly participated in another controlled narcotics transaction involving approximately two ounces of fentanyl and one pound of methamphetamine.

When detectives moved in to arrest him, Green fled, striking an unmarked sheriff detective car before entering southbound I-95, according to the Facebook posting.

What followed was a pursuit reaching approximately 115 mph, during which Green was seen throwing suspected narcotics and a cell phone from his vehicle.

The Florida Highway Patrol, Palm Beach and Martin County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit as it entered Martin County. FHP successfully deployed stop sticks before a trooper performed a PIT maneuver near Kanner Highway near Stuart, bringing the pursuit to an end and with Green in custody, according to the Facebook posting.

Following his arrest, the SLCSO SWAT Team executed a search warrant at Green’s residence.

Narcotics recovered during the Oct. 13 investigation included:

• about one pound of methamphetamine and two ounces of fentanyl associated with the controlled purchase;

• 22 additional grams of methamphetamine;

• two grams of crack cocaine;

• one gram of fentanyl.

Green faces charges by the sheriff’s office in trafficking in fentanyl; trafficking in cocaine; sale of cocaine; four counts of trafficking in methamphetamine; and unlawful use of a two-way communications device.

FHP filed additional charges, including two counts each of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and fleeing and eluding; one count each of trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in methamphetamine, tampering with evidence, reckless driving, dangerous excessive speeding of 100 mph or higher and resisting an officer without violence.

Green, who was already out on bond in connection with unrelated charges in Miami-Dade County, remains incarcerated in the St. Lucie County Jail on a $440,000 bond, according to the jail web site.

The fatal overdose investigation remains active.
