HOBE SOUND, Fla. —
A shooting in the Banner Lake area of Hobe Sound on Wednesday night left one person dead, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the scene along Southeast Citrus Way and spent hours investigating. Authorities said one person was detained for questioning.
Harriet Ford Greg, who said the victim was her grandson, shared that he lived with her. She recalled hearing three gunshots while she was in bed and immediately worrying about him, knowing he was out that night.
When she stepped outside, she said she saw him on the ground as first responders tried to save him.
“[I saw him] laying on the ground out there and the police officer was reviving him,” Greg said. “I thought that he’s not going to make it. It was my grandson. Somebody shot him.”
Greg said she is trying to stay strong for her family but admitted she cannot bring herself to walk into the room where her grandson stayed, saying none of this feels real.
The sheriff’s office is expected to release more information Thursday afternoon.
