Jacksonville mother seeks answers after son is fatally shot in Arlington

  • October 15, 2026

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville mother is asking for answers after her 23-year-old son was shot and killed in Arlington earlier this month.

Bryce Scott was shot near Bert Road on Oct. 5, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Officers responding to the scene around 3 p.m. found him with multiple gunshot wounds. The sheriff’s office has not identified a suspect.

Scott’s mother, Alexandria Scott, said she learned about the shooting from the news and did not realize her son was the victim.

“I actually saw the news. I was like, ‘Who got shot over there?’ Somebody being shot, and I didn’t even realize it was my own kid,” she said.

She said she regrets not being with her son when he died.

“I feel bad because I wasn’t there when my son died, and I feel bad because I wasn’t there when he took his last breath. Other people were around him,” she said.

Scott said she believes someone in the community saw what happened and may be able to help investigators.

“Somebody saw something. They saw my son running. My son was an athlete, so he was running. So someone saw my son running. Somebody saw something,” she said. “I’ve made it my mission to find out who did this to you.”

The advocacy group Mad Dads of Northeast Florida has shared images of Scott on its Facebook page and encouraged people to share information about the investigation. An Arlington resident also urged the community to support the family and keep Scott’s name in the public eye.

“Keep fighting. Honestly, the life lost does not mean the fight ends. The fight starts when the life is lost,” Kalynn Edwards said. “Make sure his name is heard, make sure everybody knows what happened. In the area itself, as a community, we need to come together to do something.”

Scott’s family plans to hold a memorial service on Oct. 23. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact JSO or Crime Stoppers.
