(Miami, FL) – Federal prosecutors asking for life sentences and millions in fines for the Alexander brothers, who have ties to South Florida.
The three brothers, Oren, Alon and Tal were convicted of federal sex trafficking and rape charges in New York in March.
Per Wednesday’s court filing, prosecutors argued the life sentence is appropriate because the brothers were convicted of “sex crimes of extraordinary magnitude — noting that more than 70 women reported being assaulted by the sick trio and nearly a dozen testified against them.”
Oren and Alon Alexander, 39-year-old twins, and their brother Tal, 40, were found guilty of all 10 counts including two involving minors after a five-week trial earlier this year.
Prosecutors allege the brothers began sexually assaulting women when they were in Michael Krop Senior High School in Miami in 2001.
The defense is recommending 15-year terms, the minimum, on the federal charges. The defense filing a response, “the brothers admitted to behavior that was ‘at times, insensitive towards the feelings of certain women at certain times’ and apologized to the women they insulted or offended — but ‘steadfastly maintain their innocence.’”
The trio are set to be sentenced in New York federal court on October 27th.
Meanwhile, Miami Judge Lody Jean set a new hearing for November 19th for the twins to appear in her courtroom on additional state rape charges, barring any more delays in the federal sentencing.
