Burnt human bones were discovered Thursday morning near Miami’s Moore Park, police say. Authorities are working to find out whose they are and what happened to them.
Around 11:40 a.m., Miami Police and Fire Rescue were alerted to a fire near Northwest Seventh Avenue and 36th Street, around the wooded area by Moore Park, officers said.
As authorities worked to put out the blaze, “human-appearing” bones were discovered.
The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the “burned bone fragments as human remains.”
The investigation so far revealed the remains may be from a person who passed away “some time ago,” police said. Authorities are still working to figure out whether foul play was involved.
The circumstances surrounding the discovery are still under investigation.
