PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — This weekend we’re expected to see more heavy rain in our area.

This may be exactly the kind of weekend forecast that many people in Port St. Lucie do not want to hear.

Last week, parts of the city flooded when torrential rains hit Port St. Lucie.

According to our Stormtrac meteorologists, the city got about four inches of rain in a 48 hour period last week.

Roads turned into lakes, water levels in canals rose quickly, and some drivers took their chances and drove through standing water deep enough to possibly leave them stalled with nowhere to go.

One homeowner, who has a canal directly behind his house, says the flooding was unlike anything he had ever seen in the two years he’s lived in Port St. Lucie.

“When I came out, I was like, Oh, my God. I’ve never seen it like this before!” said Peter Rodriguez, who lives at the intersection of SW Todd Avenue and SW Broadview Street in Port St. Lucie. How concerned is he about the possibility of another flood this weekend?

“I don’t think it’s gonna get that high. If it starts getting that high, then I’m gonna start to pray. Not another flood,” he said.

A city spokesman says they’ll have public works employees on standby this weekend if heavy rain comes, and they need to clear storm drains or move pumps into position to lower water levels in certain areas such as near the intersection of Savona Boulevard California Boulevard.
