Two women are facing charges after police said they used foil-lined “booster bags” to steal hundreds of dollars worth of costumes and other items from a Spirit Halloween store in Davie.
Jasmine Lashawn Green, 34, and Shaqwanza Stephens, 35, are facing more than two dozen charges each including petty theft and possession of an anti-shoplifting control device, Broward jail records show.
The alleged incident happened Wednesday night at the store at 8942 State Road 84.
According to an arrest report, the pair were caught on surveillance cameras selecting various costumes and props worth over $650 and concealing them in reusable bags that were lined with tin foil.
The foil-lined bag is commonly used to defeat store security alarms and also known as “booster bags” the report said.
Green and Stephens left without paying and an employee tried to stop them but they fled in a Toyota Camry, the report said.
The Camry was later stopped along S. Pine Island Road and the two were taken into custody.
Officers searched the car and found clothing items that still had the antitheft devices attached to them as well as multiple foil-lined bags, the report said.
Both women were arrested and booked into jail. Attorney information wasn’t available.
