LARGO, Fla. (Oct. 14, 2026) – Community Foundation Tampa Bay has awarded a $50,000 grant to Ready for Life, a Largo-based nonprofit helping young people transitioning out of foster care gain the education, career skills, and resources they need to build financially independent futures.
The grant will support 100 foster youth and young adults through GED instruction, vocational certifications, career exploration, entrepreneurship training, and life-skills coaching. By helping participants build practical skills and overcome barriers to employment, the program aims to create pathways to long-term financial stability.
On October 14, Community Foundation Tampa Bay representatives visited Ready for Life’s Largo office for a check presentation and a closer look at the organization’s work. During the visit, they met staff members who once received services through Ready for Life and now help other young adults navigate their own journeys toward independence.
Founded in 2009 with the involvement of former Community Foundation Tampa Bay President and CEO David Fischer, Ready for Life has spent 17 years helping young adults transition from foster care to independence. For many young adults, Ready for Life becomes more than a program. It’s a place they continue to return to and consider home, even years later.
The grant is part of Community Foundation Tampa Bay’s commitment to expanding economic opportunity and supporting nonprofit organizations working to strengthen communities throughout the region.
