FORT PIERCE – The City of Fort Pierce’s Commissioner Curtis Johnson Jr. has been appointed to serve on the Florida League of Cities’ 2026–2027 Intergovernmental Relations, Mobility, and Emergency Management Committee, one of the League’s five Legislative Policy Committees.
As a member of the Intergovernmental Relations, Mobility, and Emergency Management Committee, Commissioner Johnson will help develop the Florida League of Cities’ Legislative Platform, which identifies priority issues affecting municipal governance and local decision-making during the upcoming legislative session. The committee focuses on issues involving intergovernmental coordination, transportation and mobility, emergency preparedness, and policies that impact the ability of municipalities to effectively serve their communities.
“I look forward to continuing to serve on this statewide committee to further protect the 411 cities and local home rule when it comes to intergovernmental relations, mobility, and emergency management,” said Commissioner Johnson. “With the explosive growth of our state, the work that this committee will tackle will be critical for smart infrastructure growth to accommodate new residents and those who are native to Florida. There must and will be a balanced approach.”
Commissioner Johnson’s appointment provides an opportunity to bring the perspective of Fort Pierce residents into statewide discussions concerning infrastructure development, transportation planning, emergency management, and the importance of preserving local decision-making authority.
As Florida continues to experience population growth and increasing demands on public infrastructure and municipal services, the committee plays an important role in evaluating legislative proposals and developing policy recommendations that support sustainable growth, effective intergovernmental partnerships, and community preparedness.
Through his continued service on the committee, Commissioner Johnson will help ensure that the needs and priorities of Fort Pierce and other Florida municipalities are represented in discussions that shape statewide legislative policies.
