A Miami woman was arrested after a pedestrian died early Saturday in a hit-and-run crash, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m., deputies went to investigate a reported hit-and-run with an injured person in Dania Beach, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. They found a man, who was not identified by authorities, lying in the road near the 200 block of Sheridan Street. He died on scene.

According to investigators, he was crossing the street when he was hit by a Hyundai Sonata, the statement said. The driver fled in an unknown direction, but detectives identified the vehicle by parts that were left on the road after the crash.

After detectives located the car, they determined 21-year-old Keila Maldonado was the driver and arrested her, the statement said. Maldonado was being held Sunday on a $51,000 bond at the Broward Main Jail.

She is accused of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and failing to stop and remain on scene of an accident involving death, the statement said. She doesn’t have an attorney listed yet.
