The Orlando Magic provided key injury updates, with Franz Wagner undergoing evaluation for a right shoulder injury and Noah Penda sidelined by a hamstring tear. Meanwhile, Anthony Black returned to practice from an ankle sprain as contract extension discussions continue.
Orlando Magic star forward Franz Wagner has been dealing with injuries for much of his career and it seems that the start of this season is no exception.
Magic head coach Sean Sweeney provided an update on Wagner, who is suffering from a right shoulder injury, saying that they will continue evaluating his condition to learn more, via Magic reporter Jason Beede.
The German forward was able to perform some “light work” in practice on Sunday.
French forward Noah Penda suffered a partially torn right hamstring during Friday’s preseason game against the Miami Heat. Penda told Beede that he isn’t sure how long he’ll be out, since his hamstring feels really sore.
“Just terrible luck,” he said, as he had a strain that was fully healed, according to imaging, on the same hamstring.

Anthony Black, who suffered a right ankle sprain, has been able to participate in practice on Sunday, looking good, according to Sweeney. He is moving well and will keep ramping up.
Black is one of the many players of the 2023 NBA Draft, who is eligible for an extension, with the Orlando Magic being watched by other NBA teams to potentially move Black if they fail to agree on an extension.
“I don’t think they trade him now even if they don’t get a deal,” an Eastern Conference executive said of Black talking to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst. “They are under pressure to win this season because of that payroll, and they need him because of Suggs’ injury issues.”
Despite facing luxury tax concerns, the Magic are still trying to retain Black for the longterm future.
