Halloween, Oct. 31, falls on a Saturday this year. Which is good for late-nighters, who like to party and get their scare on once the moon comes up. That’s after the little costumed trick-or-treaters have scoured their neighborhoods for candy, with parent or guardian in tow, during the sunset hours.
The bay area’s family-friendly public Halloween celebrations happen the weekend before Halloween. St. Petersburg’s Halloween on Central, a joint venture between St. Petersburg’s Grand Central and EDGE districts, is a full sunlight, afternoon spectacular traditionally held on a Sunday.
That means this weekend. That means Sunday, Oct. 25.
Here’s the deal: 22 blocks of Central Avenue, between Dr. MLK Jr. (9th) Street to 31st Street, will be closed to vehicular traffic between noon and 5 p.m.
This makes for an all walking and strolling Halloween thoroughfare, with candy stops all along the way for the littlest visitors.
The day also includes live entertainment, food trucks, vendors, unique retailer participation and contests:
1 p.m.: Kids Costume Contest at Mutts and Martinis, 2900 Central
3 p.m.: Pet Costume Contest at Mutts and Martinis, 2900 Central
4 p.m.: Pet Costume Parade, Dog Bar, 2300 Central
The entertainment includes street performers, and stages located at strategic places along the way. There are kids’ activities including face painting, a foam party, a magician and more.
Free parking is available at Tropicana Field in Lots 4, 6, 7, and 11.
The SunRunner and new Spark routes will offer free rides all day. Find route info here.
