TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — An outdoor fire involving a massive pile of recyclable cardboard broke out early Monday at Marpan Recycling on Woodville Highway, prompting a large response from the Tallahassee Fire Department.
At approximately 4:46 a.m. on October 19, Tallahassee firefighters were dispatched to the reported fire. Crews arrived to find a pile of recyclable cardboard burning near a structure. The pile measured about 100 feet long, 50 feet wide and 20 feet tall.
Firefighters established a water supply using more than 1,600 feet of five-inch supply hose, then deployed multiple handlines and two aerial trucks to fight the fire. Crews also worked alongside Marpan personnel, using heavy equipment to spread out the cardboard so firefighters could reach burning materials.
The fire was brought under control, and crews remained on scene working to fully extinguish remaining hot spots.
Leon County EMS and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
