CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Early voting is now underway in parts of Southwest Florida, and voters are already making their way to the polls.

Residents in Charlotte, Hendry and Lee County can cast their ballots early starting today.

Voters do not need to go to their assigned precinct. Early voting is open at any of the 12 locations from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day.

Voters in Cape Coral say their reasons for showing up range from local city races to statewide issues like Amendment Three and property taxes.

Harold Berkey, a Cape Coral resident, said he came out with a clear agenda.

“I want voter ID and also want term limits going in for all these congressmen, senators. They no more lifetime positions,” Berkey said.

Another Cape Coral resident, Jeffery Fielder, said his focus was closer to home.

“I’m here to vote for the mayor,” Fielder said. “Because the UEP, the issue with the parks, the infrastructure. Now they’re tearing up Cape Coral Parkway. It’s just so much going on and they need to slow down.”

Early voting in Lee County runs through Saturday, Oct. 31. Residents in DeSoto and Collier counties can begin voting early Thursday while Glades County residents can start Saturday.
