Northwest Jacksonville residents say Paxon Lounge move brought noise, parking problems

  • October 19, 2026

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Residents along Lowell Avenue say late-night noise and people parking in their yards have become a growing nuisance since Paxon Liquor and Lounge moved across Edgewood Avenue North, less than 200 feet from their homes.

“The noise continues in the early, early in the morning, you know, 2, 3 o’clock in the morning,” resident Sinatra said. “This is a continuous thing.”

Sinatra said one neighbor who works as an airport security guard came home one night and couldn’t get into her yard because a vehicle was blocking it. She had to drive around the block, Sinatra said.

“It’s a major nuisance,” Sinatra said.

The business previously drew complaints at its former location in the Paxon Shopping Center, including reports of loud music, racing and shootings, one of them deadly. Residents say the problems followed the business when it moved across the street over the summer.

“Just about everybody that’s been here for quite some time has an issue with it,” Sinatra said. “I’ve been here for 33 years, as a matter of fact, and never experienced anything like this before.”

Residents said they regularly call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and have contacted city officials. They also put up no-parking signs in an effort to keep customers from parking in their yards.

“We call JSO constantly,” one resident said. Another said the music is turned down when officers arrive but turned back up after they leave.

Residents also raised concerns about safety.

“If something were, say, gunfire, you know, were to happen here, I’m right here next door. My bedroom is just right there,” Sinatra said. “What if a stray bullet were to come? … My heart is to protect our community.”

District 9 City Council member Tyrona Clark-Murray said the business is on the sheriff’s office’s Public Nuisance and Abatement Board radar. She said she is aware of calls to JSO about the crowd at the new location, which is closer to homes.

The Paxon liquor store is on JSO‘s public nuisance, and abatement board (PNAB) radar. You may or may not be aware of the one fatality and several criminal events that have occurred in connection to theand liquor store when it was located in the Paxon shopping center, I am aware of calls that have been made to JSO in regards to their inability to control the crowd at their new location, which is closer to residences just like Tipsy’s, JSO is continuing to monitor the activity at the Paxon liquor store. I encourage residents in that area to take photographs and continue to call JSO. In addition to notify my office of the activities. The more documentation we have the sooner we can file to have the business under a public nuisance and abatement order.

“The more documentation we have, the sooner we can file to have the business under a public nuisance and abatement order,” she said.

Sinatra said the business owner and a nearby gas station could take steps to address neighbors’ concerns, but residents don’t believe they have done so.

“I want peace, and I want sleep,” Sinatra said.

The owner of Paxon Liquor asked News4JAX to call back later. The sheriff’s office acknowledged News4JAX’s questions about its responses to the area, including how often officers have been called and whether enforcement is ongoing, and said it is working on a response.

Residents said they plan to keep documenting the problems and pushing for answers.
