JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man in his early 70s was killed after a two-vehicle crash on Roosevelt Boulevard Monday evening, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Coffey of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit said the crash occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. The driver was behind the wheel of a gray Honda Accord traveling southbound on Roosevelt Boulevard when he attempted to turn left onto Rensselaer Avenue.

A silver Infiniti traveling northbound on Roosevelt Boulevard attempted to avoid the Honda but was unable to and struck the Honda on the driver’s door. Both vehicles were pushed off the roadway, striking a light pole and a privacy fence.

Both drivers were transported by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue to a local hospital, where the Honda driver was later pronounced dead.

The crash marks the 132nd traffic fatality in Duval County this year, according to JSO.

As of 9:15 p.m., Roosevelt Boulevard remained affected as detectives continue to investigate the scene. JEA crews are also on scene working to remove a downed light pole.
