LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – For the second time in just over two months, Lake Talquin Volunteer Fire Department is having to replace or repair the equipment that helps them save lives.
The department just experienced a theft in August, when a winch was stolen off of their truck.
In a Facebook post Monday, the Lake Talquin Volunteer Fire Department Station 32 called for answers after discovering several bullet holes in the station and its tanker truck.
Asst. Fire Chief Kenneth Harvey said that a Leon County sheriff’s deputy discovered the damage Monday after parking at the station to take a phone call.
Harvey said the station has been in contact with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and an investigation is underway.
Department leaders believe the shooting happened sometime between Friday night and Monday morning.
Staff members found seven bullet holes in the side and front of the building. One of those bullets went through the front and back windshields of the station’s tanker truck used to haul water to firefighters during calls.

Fortunately, the tanker truck was insured, but it’s now out of service due to the damage.
Harvey estimates the windshield itself will cost around $1,000 to replace, minus labor.
The estimate may rise to several thousand dollars if the truck’s water tank needs removal to access the back windshield.
Harvey said they have an additional tanker available for use at Station 14, located near County Road 375/Blountstown Highway.
However, picking the truck up will take about 15 minutes, on top of the time it takes to drive back over to Station 32 and respond in that area.
The department serves more than 7,000 people across western Leon County up to the Gadsden and Liberty County lines to the west and the Wakulla County line to the south.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to reach out to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.
