Miami grocery shopping is getting a welcome glow-up. This fall, entrepreneur Danielle Axman will open Wilder, a new neighborhood market designed to make everyday food shopping a little more thoughtful (and hopefully a lot more delicious). The concept combines the freshness of a farmers market, the convenience of a grocery store and culinary expertise from the team behind some of Miami’s most acclaimed restaurants.

At the heart of Wilder is The Wilder Standard, a sourcing and ingredient framework intended to simplify the increasingly complicated business of figuring out what’s actually in your food. Developed with a multidisciplinary group of food, health and sustainability experts, including the research team at the Environmental Working Group, the standard aims to establish a higher bar for the products.

Local sourcing will be a major part of Wilder, which plans to work with Florida farms and regional producers—including Tiny Farms, Paradise Farms and Glaser’s Organic Farms—to bring locally grown and made products into an everyday grocery run.

But Wilder isn’t stopping at produce and pantry staples. Grassfed Culture Hospitality, the Michelin-starred team behind Los Félix and Krüs Kitchen, is developing the market’s culinary and beverage program, bringing restaurant-level ambition to what was once the province of questionable-looking sushi. Wilder is also backed by the New York City-based Major Food Group, which is behind some of the most recognizable restaurant names in America, including Carbone, Sadelle’s, and The Grill.

For Axman, the idea is to rethink the neighborhood market as more than a place to pick up milk on the way home. By combining ingredient transparency, relationships with local producers and chef-driven food, Wilder hopes to make better everyday choices easier for shoppers.

“When I became a mother, everything about how I fed my family changed,” Axman said in a statement. “Suddenly I was reading every label, researching where our food came from and driving out to meet the farmers myself. I wished there was one place I could shop without having to do all that homework every week. That’s why I built Wilder. My goal is to create a market where the standards are real, the food is genuinely delicious and eating well feels like a pleasure, not a project.”

Wilder is expected to open in Miami this fall at 3250 NE 1st Ave., although an exact opening date has not been announced. More details about the market’s offerings and launch plans are expected closer to opening. For more information, click here.
