A Palm Coast man wanted in Flagler County on charges of sexually abusing a child under the age of 12 has been arrested in Texas, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.Investigators say 22-year-old Giovanni Curtis was taken into custody in El Paso, Texas, after a monthslong investigation that began with a single report from a parent in Flagler County for a crime committed years ago. FCSO Chief Deputy Joe Barile said the sheriff’s Major Case Unit worked alongside the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division because Curtis was on active duty when the investigation started. “She conducted her investigation, which included going to El Paso, Texas, and conducting an interview,” Barile said. “And that’s where she gained a confession.”According to investigators, Curtis was 13 years old when he allegedly committed the crimes in Flagler County. In a press release, officials said Curtis “inappropriately touched the child’s genitals multiple times over several years” and “performed oral sex on another victim.”Detectives said Curtis also admitted to touching other children, and those potential cases remain under investigation.“That investigation is still ongoing with other agencies and jurisdictions to see and identify those other victims,” Barile said. “I do not know how many.”Barile confirmed that the Army CID and the FBI are assisting in the investigation and said other agencies may become involved as more victims are identified, possibly outside Florida.Curtis is being held in El Paso County, Texas, on a $150,000 bond as he awaits extradition to Florida.
