What to do with those old photos being kept in a shoebox?
The Islander turns 60 this November, and we are planning a special publishing and community celebration. We need your help.
On Nov. 11, we will publish a vintage edition designed to look much like the very first issue of The Islander, which hit the island on Nov. 2, 1966. And we know Key Biscayners, longtime residents and newcomers alike, love to reminisce about the way things used to be. So that issue will feature a pictorial of old photos from the community.
How can you take part? Have a favorite black-and-white shot of an old shopping center? A picture of Cape Florida State Park before it was renamed Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park? Class photos from the Community School, or a gathering at the Key Biscayne Beach Club?
Share them with us. Email your photos to info@islandernews.com and include who is in the picture, roughly when and where it was taken, and who took it. Have a photo that isn’t digitized? Stop by our office and we will scan it and return it to you. We are at 104 Crandon Blvd., Suite 308, behind the Wells Fargo building, or call us at (305) 361-3333.
Every photo you share enters you in a drawing for a $100 gift certificate to The Golden Hog. Everyone is eligible.
Please send your photos by Friday, October 30, 2026.
See you on Nov. 11.
