TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Amazon’s drone delivery service is getting ready to take flight in the Capital City, and residents should start seeing those drones in just a matter of weeks.
Amazon officials told WCTV that the goal is to have its drones off the ground by mid-November.
Taking off from the fulfillment center on Vineland Drive, drone delivery will be available for residents within a 7.5-mile radius of the center.
Officials said three million different items are drone-eligible, and 60-70% of orders meet drone delivery standards.
Josh Brundage, senior manager of commercial operations at Prime Air, said that the drones can carry up to five pounds at a time.
“You can also get multiple items that fit inside this box that weigh less than five pounds,” Brundage said. “Again, they can still come via drone, and even if you order multiple things that fit in this box, you could actually get multiple drone deliveries to your house as well to complete your order.”

The service will start with a fleet of 21 drones.
Amazon delivery drones are currently operating in 15 other cities across the United States, including Tampa, Detroit and Dallas.
Nationally, some have raised concerns about the drones, including how much sound they may or may not make.
Brundage said they operate anywhere between 100 and 400 feet up in the air.
“When the drone’s making the delivery, that’s when it’s going to be the most noticeable because it does come down to about 12 feet in the backyard,” Brundage said.
Brundage said at the start, the goal is to have deliveries take under two hours.
