ORLANDO, Fla. – Put on your guayabera or bata cubana and head to the Dr. Phillips Center for a fiesta that will get you tapping your shoes all night long.
You may not understand every Spanish lyric, but you’ll feel the music, emotion and energy on stage as the “Buena Vista Social Club” takes the stage in Orlando as part of the 2026-2027 Broadway series.
For longtime Central Floridians, the title might bring Lake Buena Vista—and the area’s tourist attractions—to mind. But this Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical takes audiences somewhere else entirely: to the heart of Cuba, and a nightclub filled with remarkable musicians.
Set in the 1950s and 1990s, the story explores the fears and constraints Cubans faced under communism. As Setting the Stage producer Brooke Savage writes, “At the center of the story is legendary singer Omara Portuondo. She was known throughout Cuba as the ‘Queen of Feeling’ until she stepped out of the spotlight. A record producer then offers her a rare opportunity, which forces her to face her past.”

The show’s beautiful and high-energy choreography and music– with trumpets, guitars, even a flute– kept people engaged throughout the performance. The storyline and relationships among the characters was emotional, yet funny and seemed to resonate. The opening night audience was also treated to a cameo by U.S. Congressman Maxwell Frost of Orlando, who wowed the crowd with his drumming skills.
Pro Tip: The Dr. Phillips Center offers discounted rush tickets for select Broadway shows for discounted prices– often ranging between $30-$40 per ticket. Rush tickets are available to students and often other qualifying groups, such as veterans and teachers. A valid ID is required to purchase these tickets, and the discount cannot be combined with other offers.
