PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — More than 100 cats were found in unsanitary conditions inside a Port St. Lucie home, including deceased kittens, prompting a criminal investigation.
Officers with the Port St. Lucie Police Department say 124 cats, both living and deceased, were recovered from a residence in the 2500 block of SW Warwick Street.
Animal Control personnel responded to concerns about the number of cats and their living conditions on October 13. They documented accumulated feces and deceased kittens inside the home.

Two of the three residents have been issued citations for hoarding and failing to provide medical attention to animals, police said. The investigation remains active, and police have not provided details about potential future arrests.
All 124 cats have been surrendered and are receiving care through Port St. Lucie Animal Control and the Humane Society of St. Lucie County.
Several cats are being treated for ear mites and fleas. Others have needed surgery or additional veterinary care, with some transported to Veterinary Medical Center for treatment.
Many of the surviving cats are friendly and could become available for adoption once their medical needs are addressed, police said.
The case required a coordinated response involving animal control personnel, police officers, veterinarians and animal welfare organizations.
Police said additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
