TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was arrested after shooting a person in east Tampa, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

The shooting happened Monday at 1:49 p.m. at the Netpark business complex, located near the 6200 block of East Hillsborough Avenue.

HCSO said Timothy Carter III, 23, fired a gun at two people who were running away from him. One of the victims showed up at the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the back.

Deputies arrested Carter and found a gun in a nearby trash can. He had an active warrant connected to a robbery in Tampa earlier this month.

In addition to the warrant, Carter was charged with:

Attempted murder in the second degree while wearing a mask (firearm – discharge)

Aggravated battery great bodily harm or deadly weapon firearm

Discharge firearm in public or on residential property while wearing a mask

Felon in possession of a firearm (x2)

Robbery with a firearm (less than $750)

Tampering with physical evidence

“As a convicted felon, this individual has no business possessing a firearm,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “To then shoot someone in the back shows just how violent this criminal truly is.”

Carter was released from prison in May after serving time for armed carjacking.
