Darrell Keith Simon was sentenced Oct. 20 in Duval County Circuit Court, according to the judgment. The court found him guilty of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, felony DUI, driving with a suspended or revoked license, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer without violence.
The court ordered a 10-year prison term on the aggravated fleeing count. It also imposed five-year terms on leaving the scene and driving with a suspended or revoked license, with the sentence on the DUI count consecutive to the aggravated fleeing sentence. Simon was credited with 157 days served.
The case stems from a May 16 pursuit through the race course. Dashcam video released by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office showed Simon’s vehicle narrowly missing athletes as officers tried to stop him. Police ended the pursuit with a PIT maneuver near Five Points.
No athletes were injured.
