CAPE CORAL, Fla. —

The Cape Coral community is coming together to support Yanina Rolon and her three daughters after their home burned down earlier this month, with family friends collecting furniture, clothes and other essentials to help them start over.

“It makes me feel like Cape Coral has a really nice, like, close-knit community, even though we’re so spread out, it makes me feel like we’re actually a community,” said Krystal Twinney, a family friend who is helping the Rolon family rebuild.

The fire occurred on Nov. 1 at Rolon’s Southeast Fifth Place home. A neighbor noticed smoke during their usual walk and called 911.

“But then it was like a fire and it started getting bigger. And we heard a lady in there and screaming for help, and Mommy called 911,” said Richard Diamond, the son of the eyewitness who made the emergency call.

Rolon’s oldest daughter, Crystel, who has cerebral palsy, was trapped inside along with the family’s labradoodle, Ginger, and kittens. Firefighters managed to rescue Crystel and some of the cats, but sadly, the dog died.

“I went the next day to help. Yeah. Look for the animals. And I did my best to, you know, get other people to start searching and just. I had to do something. I felt so helpless and terrible,” Twinney said.

Twinney is determined to provide the family with peace and comfort during this difficult time. She has found them a temporary home but is still in need of furniture and is accepting donations.

Crystel remains hospitalized with severe burns from the fire. Twinney describes this as a heartbreaking time for Yanina and her daughters and is asking for any donations to help them. Those interested in donating can directly contact Krystal Twinney House on Facebook for a drop-off location.
