Martin County airport committee to review overnight flights and noise concerns

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla (CBS12) — Martin County’s Airport Noise Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at Witham Field’s Airport Administration Building to review nighttime flight activity and noise concerns. The committee advises the county on airport noise and possible mitigation measures.

The airport recorded 7,474 takeoffs and landings in September, including 1,224 jet operations. Of those, 258 took place during the voluntary curfew, which runs from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. The airport reported a 96.55% compliance rate. The county also sent 20 letters to aircraft operators about nighttime activity; the report does not specify how many flights, if any, were considered violations.

The committee is also scheduled to receive an update on the Residential Sound Insulation Program, which aims to reduce aircraft noise inside eligible homes near the airport.

The agenda does not list a proposal to change the voluntary curfew or a vote on airport rules.
