A family dog that authorities say attacked a 17-year-old girl in northwest Miami-Dade remained on the loose Thursday after deputies tried unsuccessfully to catch the animal.

Exclusive video from Chopper 6 captured the moments surrounding the search for the dog, named Diablo, near Northwest 66th Street and 17th Avenue.

The video shows deputies in the backyard of a home, where the dog appears cornered near a structure as deputies move closer.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said a deputy deployed an electronic control weapon after the dog aggressively approached from behind. The device did not strike the dog, according to the sheriff’s office.

Chopper 6 video then shows Diablo running around the back of the property and escaping into the surrounding neighborhood.

Inside the home, deputies found a 17-year-old girl with several injuries. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported her to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

NBC6 cameras captured first responders taking the teenager from the property on a stretcher with one arm bandaged.

The dog’s owner told NBC6 that the teenager is doing better.

But with Diablo still loose, the owner said she has been trying to figure out how to safely get the dog off the streets and has encountered difficulties with Miami-Dade Animal Services.

The owner called Animal Services while NBC6 was present and asked whether she could bring in a dog that had bitten someone. She was told the facility was full.

“Even if I do find him, what am I supposed to do?” the owner said. “He’s not like a dangerous dog. He probably isn’t going to bite. It’s probably something that just happened at the moment, but why take the risk?”

The owner said she does not live at the northwest Miami-Dade property and instead lives in Homestead and rents the property to others. According to the owner, people living in a rear unit help care for Diablo.

She also said Diablo only understands commands in Spanish.

As the search for Diablo continues, the owner is questioning why Animal Services did not respond alongside law enforcement following the attack.
