Almost a year ago, shortly after its frontman Gabriel Alcala’s oligodendroglioma brain tumor diagnosis, Jacuzzi Boys released its first full-length in a decade.

Too Cold to Tango is a magical record, especially for fans of The Cramps, Big Star and even Sam The Sham. Alcala has had a positive recovery, too.

“In so many ways, he honestly feels better than he has in years, which has been both surprising and such a huge relief. Looking back, it’s clear the tumor was causing a lot more suffering than we understood at the time, and there’s a deep gratitude in our home for the second chance he’s been given,” a GoFundMe update from last January said.

The Miami garage-rock favorite is back in Ybor City this weekend, with Alcala in the lineup, and playing a club that’s keeping indie live music alive in Ybor City.

Tickets to see Jacuzzi Boys, The Venus, and Kneedz at Zodiac in Ybor City on Sunday, Oct. 25 are still available and start at $25.
