BUNNELL, Fla. (WFLA) — The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said it arrested a Florida man accused of trafficking fentanyl after a traffic stop on Nov. 5.

An FCSO deputy initiated the traffic stop on a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle after reports of inconsistencies with the license plate and registered owner.

The motorcycle operator, David Burley, provided deputies with a vehicle registration and title, belonging to a different motorcycle. The motorcycle has an expired registration under a different name, FCSO said.

Deputies said Burley purchased the motorcycle through a third party without properly registering it after speaking with the previously registered owner.

Body camera footage showed Burley pleading with deputies not to take him to jail as a deputy explained the reason for his arrest.

According to body camera footage, a deputy located a loaded pistol and over 24 grams of fentanyl in his jacket pocket and $2,307 in cash in his possession.

FCSO said Burley was arrested on suspicion of trafficking in fentanyl, carrying a concealed firearm during the commission of a felony operating an unregistered motor vehicle and attaching an unassigned license plate to a motor vehicle.

“He had enough fentanyl to potentially kill 12,200 people,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “That’s the population of Bunnell, Flagler Beach, Beverly Beach and Marineland combined.”

Burley was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and is being held without bond. The cash and motorcycle were seized for forfeiture, FCSO said.

FCSO said Burley is “no stranger to law enforcement” with previous arrests for drug possession, drug trafficking, disorderly intoxication, tampering with evidence, obstruction and domestic battery.
