The Cape Coral Police Department said a shooting that injured two people during a road rage incident is under investigation on Santa Barbara Boulevard on Thursday.

According to the police, this happened near the 800 block of Santa Barbara Boulevard, and the injuries are non-life-threatening. One was from a bullet graze.

Officers say the victims were driving a dark gray Hyundai when another driver shot at their vehicle. The victims drove to the 1025 Shopping Plaza and called 911, while the shooter fled the scene.

Cape Coral police are asking anyone who may have information or who witnessed what happened to give them a call, as the suspected road rage driver is still on the loose while the search continues.

Southbound lanes have been blocked off from Southwest 8th Street and Southeast 8th Street to Nicholas Parkway. Officers with flashlights have been looking on the road for evidence.

There are more than a dozen police vehicles and forensics units in the plaza. Crime scene tape is up in the area.

Toby Casten, who works at the shopping plaza, described the chaotic scene.

“Cops. Literally in the parking lot running like, on foot, like, about 10, 20 of them,” Casten said.

He shared his reaction to the incident.

“That’s scary. That’s a movie stuff, you know? That’s. Too close for comfort,” Casten said.

Casten also expressed concern about the potential danger to others.

“There’s bystanders, they could of, you know, stray bullet could have hit a kid, could have hit him. You know, a pregnant woman could have been so much worse,” Casten said.

The Cape Coral Police Department said both victims were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the driver to contact the police department.

“Hopefully, they got them on camera or something, you know, because they can’t just go around doing that. That’s not right,” Casten said.
