TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Several political figures stopped by Florida A&M’s homecoming festivities to connect with voters as the general election approaches.
Democratic gubernatorial nominee David Jolly was among those who visited the campus.
Several other Democratic candidates joined Jolly, including running mate Gwen Graham and U.S. Senate candidate Angie Nixon.
Hundreds of people filled the Will Packer Amphitheater as the three candidates urged them to go out and exercise their right to vote in the next few days.
Jolly said now was the perfect time to get out and connect with voters in Tallahassee, as thousands are in town for homecoming.
A former Republican, Jolly said it was also a way to form a stronger bond with fellow Democratic candidate Angie Nixon and her base.

He said one of his biggest goals today was to ensure that minority voters’ voices were heard and represented.
“We are a state that’s sadly known for launching culture wars eight years ago, marginalizing communities based on the color of your skin, where you were born, who you love and who you worship,” Jolly said. “I think that’s wrong. My Christian faith teaches that’s wrong, but so does the Constitution. I think it’s making sure that every community is empowered and lifted up.”
Jolly said he was thankful to FAMU for welcoming him back again to meet with voters.
Georgia gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms was also originally scheduled to join Jolly Friday, but her campaign cited scheduling issues and was not able to attend.
On the other side of the ticket, Republican candidate Byron Donalds kicked off a statewide bus tour in Sarasota Thursday.
Between Friday and Nov. 2, Donalds will make 21 stops from Pensacola to Tallahassee, Orlando and Miami.
