The shooting near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium came hours after a homecoming football game, with one victim in critical condition

At least 12 people, including six children, were injured in a shooting near a football stadium in Tallahassee, Florida on Saturday night, officials said.

The incident took place during homecoming weekend at Florida A&M University (FAMU).

Among those injured were six juveniles, including an 11-year-old, Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell told reporters during a press conference late Saturday. A victim’s grandmother was also injured while fleeing the scene near Bragg Memorial Stadium at Florida A&M University.

One victim was in critical condition, while three others sustained serious injuries. The remaining eight were in stable condition, Revell said. He added that one of the victims was a Florida A&M student.

According to the police chief, the shooting likely stemmed from an altercation involving two to three individuals. The department’s Violent Crimes Unit is leading the ongoing investigation.

“We’re still working the scene. Our detectives, our sergeants, our forensic personnel are all on scene and processing this as we go, taking in as much information as they can. This is an ongoing investigation,” Revell said, reported  by CNN.

“As our detectives work to determine exactly what happened and identify those responsible, we remain committed to getting answers for these families.”

The shooting occurred just hours after a homecoming football game at Bragg Memorial Stadium, where the Arkansas–Pine Bluff Golden Lions defeated the Florida A&M Rattlers 31-28. Authorities have not established whether the shooting was connected to the game.

In a statement late Saturday, Florida A&M University said it was aware of an incident near its campus on Perry Street on 24 October. The Tallahassee Police Department was at the scene and actively investigating, the university added.

“Our hearts go out to the victims and all those affected by this tragic incident. While the campus remains safe, individuals are encouraged to avoid the area to allow law enforcement to conduct its investigation,” the statement added.
