Brewers fans are heading to Tampa Bay to cheer on their team in the World Series. Some say it’s cheaper to attend games on the road than at home.
After celebrating a thrilling World Series win Saturday night, Milwaukee Brewers fans are traveling to Tampa Bay to cheer on their team in the next games.
Some fans went straight from celebrating at American Family Field to catching flights at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport on Sunday morning.
“We were at the game. It was unbelievable,” Brewers fan Kyle Silver said.
Silver is among the fans traveling to Florida to continue watching the Brewers compete for a World Series title.
“We’re excited to continue the train down in Tampa,” Silver said.
For some fans, the trip south comes with an unexpected benefit: cheaper World Series tickets.
Silver said he purchased tickets to games in both Milwaukee and Tampa Bay and noticed a significant difference in prices.
“Our tickets in Tampa were around $2,000 each. In Milwaukee, they were more like $3,000 or $4,000,” Silver said.
Silver also has family in Florida, eliminating the need to pay for a hotel. He estimates that even if he needed accommodations, the trip would still cost less than attending games in Milwaukee.
Other fans found even better deals.
Brady and Barb DeMotto are traveling to Tampa Bay for Game 4. Barb DeMotto said she purchased their tickets about 10 days in advance for just over $400 each.
“It was just a little over $400, but I bought them way early, so I think they really fluctuated,” DeMotto said.
They are already considering extending their stay to attend Game 5, if necessary.
“I’m watching the prices. They’re being tracked for me. I’m like, oh, they went down because Tampa lost last night,” DeMotto said.
While the DeMottos are keeping their options open, Silver has taken his planning to another level.
He booked 16 refundable flights in advance, preparing for nearly every possible outcome of the World Series.
“So hopefully I’ll be refunding a number of those if we get the sweep or win in 5. But a lot of those were coming back from Tampa for Game 6 and 7,” Silver said.
Silver said he and his father have followed the Brewers throughout the postseason, experiencing the excitement and stress of the team’s playoff run together.
Despite the close games, Silver said the team’s ability to fight back has made the experience unforgettable.
“We’ve talked about how stressful it can be, but also just how magical it is with this team’s resilience,” he said.
Now, fans are hoping their trip to Florida ends with the Brewers bringing home a World Series championship.
“Good luck, guys. You know, bring it home,” Barb said.
