TREASURE COAST — The Dyer Difference Awards are recognizing a local nonprofit making a difference in the lives of individuals facing financial hardship in St. Lucie County.
United Against Poverty (UAP) received this month’s Dyer Difference Award for its commitment to helping people build more stable, self-sufficient lives.
The organization emphasizes providing a hand up rather than a handout. Its Member Share Grocery Program offers free membership and groceries at discounts of up to 70%, helping families stretch their household budgets while promoting financial empowerment.
UAP also offers a Crisis Stabilization Program to help individuals assess their circumstances, address basic needs and begin working toward self-sufficiency. Its Step Training Employment Program helps participants overcome employment barriers, develop skills and find jobs.
More than 43,000 people in St. Lucie County benefit from UAP’s programs and the dignity that comes with receiving a hand up.
The Dyer Difference Award celebrates the generosity and compassion of people and organizations working to improve their communities.
For the Dyer family and its staff, the program’s typical $3,000 in monthly donations across St. Lucie County provides meaningful support to nonprofits working to make a positive difference.
For the recipients, the awards recognize their tireless efforts while providing financial assistance to help advance their missions.
