Local leaders meet to discuss next steps after Perry Street shooting during FAMU homecoming

  • October 27, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Local leaders met Tuesday to discuss the next steps following a shooting that occurred over the weekend in Tallahassee, leaving 12 injured and a 15-year-old behind bars.

From law enforcement to faith leaders, everyone shared one mutual feeling that now is a time for action rather than just discussing the issue.

The Saturday night shooting on Perry Street led to the arrest of 15-year-old Anthony Rivers III and 12 people injured, with the youngest victim being 11 years old, according to Tallahassee Police. Among those victims were four Leon County School students, including Leon High School Junior Varsity football player Tramon Jackson.

The suspected teen shooter is being charged as an adult with 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent, authorities confirmed.

During the conference Tuesday, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office said there seems to be a recurring trend of teenagers behind the trigger.

Now, community members are calling for stronger prevention efforts, like stricter regulations on tailgating along Perry Street, where the weekend shooting occurred after Florida A&M University hosted the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions for their annual homecoming game that night.

Tallahassee City Commissioner Jack Porter said much of the area where vendors set up is on private property, so those owners hold most of the say-so.

However, Porter said the city is in talks with FAMU about what each entity can do to help prevent something similar from happening again.

“What would the community want to see from us? Those options should be considered, as well as to ask what that have made a difference..could it have made a difference? We don’t want to impose unnecessary regulations,” she said.

Local pastors are expected to hold a prayer vigil for the victims of the shooting Thursday at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church on Tuskegee Street.
