JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Each Tuesday in the season, News4JAX will release its Super 6 football rankings of teams who play independent football. Here are the 10th rankings of the season.
Varsity 4 independent Super 6, Week 111. (1) Episcopal (10-0, SSAA)
Last week’s result: Beat Fernandina Beach, 20-15. This week: vs. (6) Old Plank Christian (6-3), first round SSAA 11-man championship state playoffs. Coaches poll ranking: 1.
Why they’re here: The Eagles earned the No. 3 seed in the SSAA 11-man bracket and open with the Defenders. The schedule was lean, but Episcopal slugged it out against tough opponents like Fernandina Beach, NFEI and Westminster Academy to shine when they played challenging teams. Can they cap a perfect season with a state title?
2. (2) West Nassau (7-2-1, SSAA)
Last week’s result: Beat Keystone Heights, 42-22. This week: vs. (8) Trenton (7-2), first round SSAA Atlantic League state playoffs. Coaches poll ranking: 3.
Why they’re here: The Warriors lost two of their final three games, albeit to tough, non-independent teams (Jackson, West Deptford, NJ). They played for an SSAA title in the association’s top division, and are a good pick to end up back in the title game again. Head coach Gunnar Cox’s team is legit.
3. (3) Paxon (8-2, SSAA)
Last week’s result: Beat Union County, 36-19. This week: vs. (7) Lafayette (4-6), first round SSAA Atlantic League state playoffs, 6:30 p.m. Coaches poll ranking: 4.
Why they’re here: The Golden Eagles’ losses are to a 7-2 Jackson team and a 7-2-1 West Nassau. They’re stout. The playoff road won’t be easy, but Paxon has elite RB KJ Palmer.
4. (4) Christ’s Church (9-1, SSAA)
Last week’s result: Beat Englewood, 49-0. This week: vs. (5) St. Joseph (4-6), first round SSAA 11-man championship state playoffs. Coaches poll ranking: 2.
Why they’re here: Eagles and RB Jaylin Robinson will have an opportunity to show the rest of the state what they’re about. CCA has a strong team on the defensive side of the ball, too.
5. (5) Hilliard (10-0, FHSAA)
Last week’s result: Beat Cornerstone Classical, 60-55. This week: Off, game against Taylor Pierson win by forfeit. Coaches poll ranking: 5.
Why they’re here: RB DJ Alderman is perhaps the best independent player in the area. Hilliard’s playoff journey will begin in a couple weeks in the FHSAA independent postseason.
6. (NR) Interlachen (6-3, SSAA)
Last week’s result: Beat Port Orange Atlantic, 27-10. This week: at Bell (7-2), first round SSAA Atlantic League consolation playoff bracket. Coaches poll ranking: NR.
Why they’re here: The Rams didn’t get the seed they wanted in the SSAA playoffs, so they’ll try and plow through the consolation bracket.

Fernandina Beach (3-7, SSAA), lost to Episcopal, 20-15.
