Charlotte County commissioners approved a $29.3 million contract for hurricane recovery beach work on Manasota Key and South Beach.

The award went to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, LLC of Houston for the Manasota Key and South Beach Fill Hurricane Recovery Project. County documents listed the contract amount at $29,348,880.

The contract secured services for maintenance dredging and beach disposal on eroding gulf and inlet shorelines using navigation channel sediments. No budget action was needed because the project was included in the Public Works MSBU/TU Dredging Capital Maintenance Plan approved in the FY27 budget process.

Charlotte County said it anticipated up to $8,223,342 in state grant funding from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The county said that would reimburse 100% of eligible costs for Hurricanes Ian and Nicole and 39.39% of eligible costs for Hurricanes Eta, Elsa, Helene, and Milton.

Bid documents showed 590,000 cubic yards of fill for Manasota Key and 400,000 cubic yards for South Beach.

County documents said the Public Works MSBU/TU Dredging Capital Maintenance Plan budgeted the work in the fiscal year 2027 budget process. They also said the project expected up to $8,223,342 from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, $7,574,014 from FEMA and $1,109,243 from the Florida Department of Emergency Management.

Bid documents set the completion time at 180 calendar days with 165 calendar days for substantial completion.
