Tampa, FL – Metropolitan Ministries is replacing approximately $50,000 in materials allegedly stolen from its Tampa holiday tent site ahead of its annual Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance programs.

The reported theft occurred at the nonprofit’s Hillsborough County location in the Westshore area, where equipment was being stored for upcoming holiday distribution operations.

According to the organization, the missing materials included aluminum components used for pipe-and-drape systems and other supplies necessary to assemble temporary assistance facilities.

The equipment was intended for four holiday tent locations serving Hillsborough, East Pasco, West Pasco and Pinellas counties.

Metropolitan Ministries expects to provide food, toys and essential supplies to approximately 30,000 families throughout the Tampa Bay region during the 2026 holiday season.

The organization discovered the missing materials in late October while preparing its seasonal distribution sites.

Law enforcement officials were notified of the alleged theft, and an investigation is underway. No arrests or suspects have been publicly identified.

Despite the loss, Metropolitan Ministries officials said preparations remain on schedule as the nonprofit works with vendors to obtain replacement equipment.

President and CEO Dr. Sarah Combs emphasized the organization’s commitment to continuing its holiday assistance programs.

Founded in 1972, Metropolitan Ministries provides food assistance, housing support and additional services to families experiencing financial difficulties throughout Tampa Bay.

The nonprofit is seeking community support to help cover the unexpected replacement costs.

Residents can assist through monetary contributions, volunteer opportunities and food donations as Metropolitan Ministries continues preparing for its Thanksgiving and Christmas distributions.
