A white van crashed into an unoccupied Miami police decoy vehicle Thursday morning on the outbound side of the Rickenbacker Causeway, just beyond the William Powell Bridge.
An accident Thursday morning outbound on the Rickenbacker Causeway after the William Powell Bridge involved a white van and a police cruiser, witnesses told Islander News.
Video shot by Islander News staffer Mariella Oliva, shows the damaged van facing against the direction of traffic. The police vehicle sustained significant front-end damage.
“The crash involved a decoy police vehicle,” Miami Police Department’s Public Information Office told Islander News, adding that it was unoccupied.
“Preliminary information suggests that the driver suffered from a medical-related episode which, ultimately, caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the decoy PD vehicle,” police said.
Police did not immediately provide information about the driver’s condition or whether anyone else was injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
