Detectives found discrepancies between the information Gayle provided to the foundation and the payments she received, LCSO said. They were able to confirm more than $1,200 in false reimbursements.
Gayle is charged with grand theft, according to LCSO.
She was placed on administrative leave in August while the district reviewed financial records related to the foundation, according to LCS spokesperson Chris Petley.
In a statement Thursday evening, Petley said the district will continue an internal investigation “to determine a future course of action regarding Dr. Gayle’s employment.”
Petley said the district “will work closely with the Foundation’s Board of Directors to review existing financial oversight procedures and implement stronger checks and balances to ensure transparency and accountability.”
