Pat Murphy and the Milwaukee Brewers have consistently found ways to compete despite operating with one of MLB’s smaller budgets. Their success comes from a distinct approach to building and playing the game. Now, they have reached the top, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 of the 2026 World Series to secure a 4-1 series win and claim the first championship in franchise history.
The Brewers have spent much of the past decade chasing a World Series championship. They came within reach in 2025, but the Los Angeles Dodgers ended their run with a sweep in the NLCS.
Pat Murphy on winning the World Series:
“You got the right mix that decided they wanted to be uncommon… It’s gotta be about team. You gotta care about your teammates. You really do. You don’t have to like them. You have to understand what it takes to play winning baseball.” pic.twitter.com/FAaphbCRMj

This time, however, Pat Murphy and his squad had a different ending in store. From the beginning, they committed to an “uncommon” mindset, determined to set themselves apart from the competition and build a team capable of going all the way.

“You got the right mix that decided they wanted to be uncommon… It’s gotta be about team. You gotta care about your teammates. You really do. You don’t have to like them. You have to understand what it takes to play winning baseball,” remarked the Brewers manager.
“Stay relentless. Get off the floor when things don’t go well. They decided they wanted to do that. They made a pact, ‘Let’s be the last man standing.’”
Ego never got in the way of this Brewers team. Every player bought into the collective effort, focused on extending rallies, handing leads to the next reliable reliever, and finding ways to win when the stakes were highest.

Milwaukee combined sound fundamentals with an analytics-driven approach, establishing itself as MLB’s top team through both the regular season and postseason.
Repeating their championship success will be a difficult challenge for Milwaukee. However, maintaining the culture Murphy has built could keep the Brewers in contention. If the players continue putting the team above individual accomplishments and stick to the principles that carried them to the top, another deep postseason run in 2027 is within reach.
