ORLANDO, Fla. —

Excitement is building in Orlando as the OUC Orlando half-marathon approaches, with less than 30 days to go, and WESH 2 is broadcasting the event for the third year with a professional race analyst joining the team to call the action.

Carissa Galloway, known for her energetic race announcements, will be hyping up massive corrals of runners at the starting line and congratulating them at the finish line. “I am your biggest cheerleader out there,” Galloway said. She has been announcing races for 20 years, starting as a teenager, and has announced close to 1,000 races.

Galloway began her career at Disney races during college, with her first event being the Walt Disney World Marathon.

“I was brought on because I was the only woman that was staffed there at the time, and I didn’t know how long a marathon was. I remember googling it on my dial-up internet,” Galloway said.

Since then, Galloway has not only learned the distance of a marathon but has completed them herself, including the NYC Marathon earlier this month.

“I am the slowest Galloway ever, and I proudly wear that,” she said.

For those familiar with her last name, Galloway is related to Jeff Galloway, the Olympian and creator of the Run, Walk, Run training plan.

“Anybody that’s met Jeff Galloway or done a Galloway training program knows that their goal is my goal, bring people into running and have them fall in love, not with the sport, but how the sport makes you feel about yourself,” Galloway said.

Despite her busy schedule, Galloway juggles race announcing with her roles as a registered dietitian, author, and mother to two children.

“How do you manage it all? Do any of us manage it? All moms out there? You know, we do it day by day,” Galloway said.

She encourages women to view running as self-care and self-love, noting that her children already participate in running events.

Her five-year-old recently trained for the Run Disney 5K last June, with Galloway cheering him on as she does for countless runners. “You don’t know what this means to you or the person next to you,” Galloway said.

As race day approaches, Galloway shared her secret to keeping energized: “Coffee, I like to have coffee right away.” With a little coffee and a lot of juggling, Galloway is ready to keep the runners moving.

In addition to the half-marathon, Galloway will also be calling the Lake Eola 5K the day after the half-marathon, which can be watched on WESH 2 that Sunday morning.
