Climate-change deniers have it wrong

In reading Scott Maxwell’s Sunday column, “Let’s strip it all from Florida textbooks,” the part about climate-change deniers reminded me of a conversation I had with a friend when this absurd revision came out. I told him I’d like to offer the climate-change deniers a free Caribbean cruise anywhere from the first of September to the end of October. He told me they wouldn’t accept it. I said, of course they wouldn’t, because if they get caught in a hurricane, they wouldn’t be able to deny the storms are much bigger and stronger than they were 25 years ago. He said, that’s not the reason. They’re not afraid of the hurricanes, they’re afraid if the ship sails out too far, it’ll fall of the edge.

Baby boomers have turned into their parents

I am very disappointed with my fellow baby boomers. We are the Woodstock generation that protested against the Vietnam War that Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon waged for no good reason; we marched to promote civil rights and end segregation. Doesn’t that sound familiar with Iran and the anti-woke agenda?

Many Boomers have been core supporters of the current president and our representatives in Congress. What happened to you? It’s like Dr. Rick in the Progressive commercials: You’ve turned into your parents. Remember how they complained about the Beatles, long hair, loud music and hippies? I may have aged but my head and heart is still young. Boomers need to vote for a world of opportunity, like the millennials are doing now. Just like we used to when we were younger and full of hope.

Florida GOP is bankrupting us

The state of Florida has reportedly wasted $82 million on a multiyear renewed contract trying to get cheap drugs from Canada for state use (not public), according to a recent report on WKMG. The 2020 contract with the Texas firm Life Science Logistics is finished, they never got a single drug, have had a huge warehouse sitting empty for years and delivered nothing to taxpayers but a huge bill.

Suspicious and outrageous? Thank goodness we’ve had Blaise Ingoglia, Florida’s Chief Financial Officer, spending valuable time harassing counties with “DOGE”-like investigations while we have another mega-million-dollar boondoggle fiasco in our state government that flies under the radar. This questionable event involves the Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA), which also allegedly had a role in Hope Florida’s $10 million disappearance. The fact that this wasn’t terminated is ridiculous. As a reward for their performance,  this same Texas firm (that was single-source contracted to implement getting cheap drugs) got another huge state contract for a warehouse.

DeSantis has established a stellar track record spending taxpayer money recklessly and without accountability. In my view, the Republican regime is bankrupting us with nothing to show for it. This inept contract demands investigation to see why no one was paying attention to cut our losses, and wasted $82 million of our blood, sweat and tears. Taxpayers want to know.

Parents, model good behavior

The letter in the Oct. 27 Sentinel that advocated that friendship and its notions should be taught in school caught my attention in a big way. Children should be taught about good behavior at home, by their parents, starting before age two. Schools should not be a child’s first place to learn about interpersonal relationships. Poor behavior in many aspects of society today often reflect poor parenting of a child. Send children to school prepared to learn, not to have their behavior corrected. Why don’t parents do a better job about teaching such things and how can that be improved?
