FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK)—Drivers on Business U.S. 41 over the Edison Bridge were dealing with a double-lane closure as crews worked on maintenance.
The Florida Department of Transportation said crews were working to maintain the bridge joints, with the northbound inside lanes and shoulder closed before the work shifted to the northbound outside lanes and shoulder.

In a traffic advisory issued Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, FDOT said the outside lanes were scheduled to close at 8 p.m. and reopen by about 6 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, for bridge plate maintenance.
Drivers were asked to reduce speed, allow extra travel time and use caution through the work zone. One Fort Myers Beach resident, Denise Fossesca, said a metal grate felt like a speed bump and nearly threw her off her motorcycle as she crossed the bridge.
Fossesca said the crossing left her shaken. “It sent me flying off of my bike, and for somebody who’s a fairly new rider like myself, they teach you to scan the road for obstacles and look for obstructions, and it looked flat when I hit it, and when I hit it, it almost sent me flying,” Fossesca said.
