CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — Cape Coral City Council appointed Maureen Buice interim city manager at its Nov. 2 meeting.

Council voted to terminate City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn’s employment agreement without cause. The city said his contract ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday.

Cape Coral Mayor John Gunter announced Buice’s appointment as interim city manager. Buice will oversee the city’s day-to-day operations while City Council determines the next steps for the position.

Buice brings more than 20 years of local government experience to the job, including nine years with Cape Coral. She has served as assistant to the city manager since November 2021 after holding roles in the city’s communications and public affairs operations.

Buice joined Cape Coral in August 2017 as a public information specialist. The city promoted her to senior public information specialist in 2019.

Before joining Cape Coral, Buice spent 12 years with the Fort Myers Police Department as accreditation manager and public information specialist. She holds a master’s degree in public administration from Barry University and a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Buice is also a Florida Certified Public Manager through Florida State University’s Florida Center for Public Management. She took over the interim role as City Council determined the next steps for the position.
